The Engine is "IN"

(click on the picture to enlarge it)

Getting the engine in was a big milestone.

It's a 38 HP BetaMarine 4 cylinder diesel.  Seems small.  Car engines are 125 HP and up right?  But how often do car engines run full time at full RPM?  These engines are designed to do that.

ABOVE LEFT:   Last year CAI formed the engine mounts - lots of fiberglassing.

ABOVE MIDDLE & RIGHT:  Progress! The engine is in and you can see it in the far right picture.

This engine is about 350 pounds and he got it in ALONE by building a framework over the top of the boat and using ropes and pulleys to pull it up and inch it over bit by bit.

  1. This is Russ from Spiritius ... I admire the engine with the shiny new water exhaust elbow. We just (last week) had to replace ours .... a pin hole had appeared and failure was immanent. Actually found a new one in La Paz, Mexico ... sometimes miracles do happen. Try to remember that all our Ingrids once looked like yours at that stage .... nice work .. will watch you progress with interest.

  2. Hi Russ, We are back in the saddle again after a lull of activity due to surgeries and life and so on. Glad you were able to successfully repair your exhaust elbow. CAI is now figuring out his water exhaust. We are starting to receive related parts just now. Many many details to figure out. I hope your sailing is fine. I see you have an Ingrid and a blog too and I shall check in and see how you are doing. So much to learn!
